Programming your HomeLink system is simple. Let me show you how. First turn on your car, hold your old transmitter a couple of inches away from the HomeLink button you want to control your garage door with. Now, press and hold both the transmitter button and the HomeLink button until the indicator light changes from a slow blink to a fast one like this. Now, press and hold the button on your HomeLink that you want to control your garage door for five seconds and release it. Your garage door should move, but if it doesn't, repeat the five-second hold. If your indicator light is still on, your programming is complete and you can just press and release your HomeLink button to activate your garage door. However, if your light flashes rapidly and then turns to a constant light, you're not done yet and we'll have to take a few extra steps.

Don't worry, I'll walk you through them. You'll need to complete the next few steps in 30 seconds, so you might want to have someone help you if you think it would be easier. First, press and hold the learn button on your garage door opener motor here. Next, get back in your car and press and hold the selected function button on your HomeLink for two seconds, then release it. Then, press and hold it for two seconds again and release it. To program additional buttons, repeat the steps we just walked through, but remember to choose a different button.

Keep in mind, if your transmitter stops working while you're programming, you'll have to hold the function button while you press and release the transmitter every two seconds. You'll see the indicator light flash slowly at first, then faster once the signal is being sent and accepted again. Still with me? Great. Then here are a few other tips you might find helpful. To program a transmitter that was previously linked to another HomeLink system, press and hold the HomeLink button you want to control your garage door until the indicator light starts to flash. Without letting go of the button, turn the ignition on in your car and your programming should be complete. Any questions, go to FordOwner.com.
